Residential Chip Seal Project in Santa Ynez, CA
In a rural, residential community, chip seal is a great pavement solution for rural communities that favor a more natural-looking pavement than asphalt. This residential community in Santa Ynez, CA, had 12,727 square feet of pavement on which they needed a chip seal project completed.
The first thing GPM did in this residential project was blow and sweep the asphalt, burn oil spots to remove them, and remove vegetation. Once that was finished, we applied hot mix asphalt pavement in sufficient quantity to bring low area to grade and compact, feathering the edges to a smooth transition.
We sprayed the pavement with CRS2-H emulsion, ensuring we covered all areas that we planned to chip seal. The emulsion was applied at a rate that ensured complete coverage and provided maximum adherence to subsequent chip rock.
GPM then installed 25 tons of 3/8″ grey chip rock at a uniform depth throughout the chip seal project area. To finish this residential project, we pneumatically rolled the materials for adherence.
