Chip Seal and Pavement Marking Project in Santa Ynez, CA
Chip sealing is a low-cost, low-maintenance paving solution for large, rural projects. It gives a road a more natural appearance than asphalt and lasts for years. GPM completed a 25,440-square-foot chip seal and pavement striping project in Santa Ynez, CA.
GPM first recompacted the existing subgrade and checked elevations for proper drainage. We next installed approximately 4″ of class II base. We used CRS2-H emulsion to cover all areas that we planned to chip seal. The emulsion is applied at a rate that will ensure complete coverage and provide maximum adherence to the subsequent chip rock.
Next, GPM installed 3/8″ grey crushed rock from CalPortland at a uniform depth throughout the project area. This was pneumatically rolled for adherence. We repeated the process for a second chip seat coat.
We finished the project by sweeping the excess chip rock from the surface. Then, we striped the new chip seal with heavy-duty traffic paint.
