Asphalt is the most popular paving material in America, and with multiple service options, you can choose the right solution for your needs. Asphalt is both flexible and durable, but not all asphalt is the same. You wouldn’t want to apply the same asphalt used on a stretch of freeway to a quiet parking lot. GPM will make sure you get the right “mix” to best address the needs of your particular project with a constant eye toward durability, appearance, and cost-effectiveness. We pride ourselves on being the market influence, and our asphalt paving projects speak to that.

Maintenance, Repair, & Installation

The GPM asphalt paving team has the expertise to understand your needs and recommend a practical repair or installation plan that fits your budget. We are pleased to offer complimentary Pavement Assessment Plans to help with short and long term expectations and budgeting. We do it all…

  • Overlays (Including Fabric Overlays)
Overlays are commonly recommended as part of a repair or maintenance project. It is an overlayment of asphalt material on top of the existing surface, extending the life of the pavement and delaying complete reconstruction. An overlay can be completed with or without a geotextile fabric layer. GPM has extensive experience with overlays and will show you a range of options.
  • Mill & Fill
Mill & Fill consists of removing existing pavement with a milling machine to a depth of 1-2”. The milled material is hauled to a recycle facility. New asphalt mix, often containing some recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), is installed to replace the milled out material. Mill & Fill repairs can last 10-12 years.
  • Sectional Patching
Not all projects require complete reconstruction or an overlay. Sectional patching is often a reasonable solution to extend the life of your pavement. The worst areas will be noted and addressed with a patching schedule for a cost-effective solution.
  • Removal & Replacement
Eventually, asphalt reaches the end of its life cycle. At that point, the only realistic solution is to remove the existing pavement and replace it with new asphalt. There can also be severe subgrade failure, resulting in the need for additional grading and base material. An ongoing maintenance program will greatly defer this costly option.
  • Comprehensive Parking Lot Maintenance
GPM offers full-service parking lot maintenance to keep your asphalt surfaces safe, clean, and performing at their best. Our team provides proactive solutions that extend pavement life and minimize costly repairs. Regular maintenance helps protect your investment and ensures your property always looks professional and operates smoothly.

GPM Urban Asphalt Paving FAQs

What is the process of getting a paving quote with GPM?

It’s easy. Simply contact us through our website form and tell us about your potential paving project. We’ll get in touch and arrange an onsite visit to accurately assess your project. Your quote will include the cost of the project and an accurate timeframe for completion.

What asphalt mixture do you recommend for the Southern California climate?

We use a variety of asphalt mix designs to best address every project needs. Hot mix asphalt is ideal for the warm California climate. We will assess which mix works best for your project, and also what type of aggregate will provide the best finished result. Larger aggregates like gravel are needed if the asphalt will be used by heavy commercial vehicles. Smaller aggregate presents a smoother look and is perfect for normal, everyday use.

How do you decide if asphalt or concrete works better?

Usually, the type of project dictates whether we use asphalt or concrete. Asphalt is easier to install and usually costs less than concrete. It’s ideal for roads, parking lots, industrial properties, and multi-family or HOA units. However, concrete provides a stronger finished project than asphalt, so it is often the best choice for heavy loads. Concrete is also preferred for sidewalks, curbs, ramps, gutters, patios, walkways, and water channels. Concrete can be stamped, colored, and custom finished, which offers many options for a touch of beauty to the finished product.

What is the average cost of a new paving job?

Of course, there are a lot of variables to factor in when estimating cost for paving, including the material (asphalt or  concrete), the area and its use (residential, commercial, industrial), and how much work is needed to either lay a new base or repair an existing one. Please contact us and we will provide you with a free estimate for your specific project.

Do you work at night to help minimize disruptions to my business?

We don’t typically work at night, but we take a proactive approach to minimize disruptions to your business. We schedule our projects to the day and hour, so you know exactly when your project will begin and end. We also notify anyone affected by the work, whether they are business owners, homeowners, or tenants. We also zone off the project area prior to beginning so stakeholders are not surprised the day work begins. We take pride in our customer service and ensuring that tenants and property owners have a positive experience and as little disruption as possible. GPM handles all types of phasing and traffic plans.

How soon does new asphalt typically need regular maintenance?

New asphalt takes between six months and a year to fully cure. It shouldn’t need maintenance before then, but if you happen to notice any cracks or damage, notify your asphalt provider immediately. Your asphalt should be sealed after it cures. After that, we recommend sealing your asphalt every three to five years. You should also inspect your pavement at least once a year for cracks, potholes, and other damage.

My asphalt is starting to crack. Do I need to replace all of it?

No, but cracking is serious because it can quickly spread and cause more damage. If you see cracks, call us immediately. We will crack seal the asphalt if damage is minimal, or we may patch the asphalt if it is more extensive. The sooner cracks are fixed, the less damage they cause and the less it will cost to repair the asphalt.
